Houston's LGBTQ+ community deserves care from people who truly understand their needs. This Training Institute puts decades of hard-won expertise into courses that help workers, counselors, and organizations do better. Whether you want to grow your career, keep your license current, or make your workplace more welcoming, there's something here for you.
The Training Institute offers several types of learning:
- **Free virtual workshops** on LGBTQ+ health, history, and community topics (one hour each, open to everyone) - **Peer Specialist certifications** — CORE Training ($250, 19.5 hrs), Recovery Support Peer Specialist ($550, 40 hrs), and Mental Health Peer Specialist ($550, 40 hrs); lived experience with recovery is required - **Continuing Education Units (CEUs)** for licensed social workers, counselors, and community health workers at affordable rates - **Workplace and DEI training** for organizations and businesses of any size - **A certificate program** recognizing LGBTQ+ cultural competency, coming late 2026
Note: CEUs are not currently available for physicians, nurses, or other medical licensures.

Getting started is straightforward. Browse the full course calendar on the Montrose Center website and register online. For peer specialist programs, you'll need lived experience with substance use or mental health challenges and recovery.

The Montrose Center has been a cornerstone of Houston's LGBTQ+ community since 1978. It holds Joint Commission accreditation, a Behavioral Health Home designation, and was Texas's first Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic. The Training Institute builds on 50+ partnerships across Harris County — so you're learning from an organization that's deeply woven into local care networks.
