Good first step: Act Precinct One Community Portal
Visit the Precinct One Community Portal online to reserve a pavilion at Alexander Deussen Park for your next family or neighborhood gathering.
Alexander Deussen Park is a free, 309-acre Harris County green space along Lake Houston. Whether you want to fish off the pier, launch a boat, let the kids loose on a playground, or walk a shaded trail, this park has room for all of it.
The park packs a lot into 309 acres. You get multiple boat launches and a renovated T-Pier for docking, plus fishing from the pier and along the shoreline. Five playgrounds are spread across the grounds. Fourteen pavilions of different sizes come with BBQ grills, picnic tables, restrooms, and parking — perfect for a family reunion or neighborhood cookout. Four trailheads connect you to walking and jogging trails. On-site you'll also find a Senior Center and a community center with additional programs and facilities.
Pick your activity and plan around the seasonal hours. If you want a pavilion for a gathering, reserve one in advance through the Precinct One Community Portal — spots fill up. Boaters should check the Lake Houston Water Safety Map before heading out; it shows boat ramp locations and nearby resources like Lake Patrol and Houston Fire Department stations. Review the park rules below before your visit so everyone has a smooth, safe time.
Open year-round. Summer hours (March through October): 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Winter hours (November through February): 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Hours can change seasonally, so check before you go.

Families with young kids will appreciate the five playgrounds spread across the park. Older adults can connect with the on-site Senior Center for programs and community. Boaters and anglers have dedicated launches, a T-Pier, and shoreline fishing access. Trail walkers and joggers can start from any of four trailheads.
In 1956, petroleum geologist Alexander Deussen (1882–1959) donated this land to Harris County so neighbors could enjoy it. That gift still pays off today. Free admission means any Houston-area family can spend a full day outside without spending a dime.
