Civic participation starts with knowing your rights and having a place to practice them. These programs connect you with real voter engagement work, national networks of civically active peers, and local partners like Harris County and the League of Women Voters — all right here in the Houston area.
Three flagship programs anchor the center's civic work. The Democracy Fellow Program places two student fellows, sponsored by the Campus Vote Project, who lead voter engagement and civic learning efforts at UHCL. Fellows are recruited at the end of each calendar year. National Vote Early Day, sponsored by MTV Vote Early, is a campus celebration that encourages early voting. U.S. Constitution Day is an annual event held around September 17 each year, featuring information booths, pocket Constitution giveaways, trivia, contests, games, and more. Beyond these events, the center supports faculty, staff, students, and community organizations with collaboration and sponsorship opportunities, expert consultations, values exploration workshops, and experiential learning partnerships with external community organizations.
