GO Neighborhoods: Discover the Power of Community | LISC Houston
GO Neighborhoods supports Houston communities in Fifth Ward, OST/South Union, and Northline through housing, economic, education, health, and safety programs.
"These three neighborhoods have real strengths — and real needs. GO Neighborhoods believes that when residents, local businesses, and community leaders work together, they can create lasting change. The program is built on the idea that people who live in a neighborhood know it best and should help shape its future."
Started in 2009, GO Neighborhoods works in three Houston communities — Fifth Ward, OST/South Union, and Northline. The program helps residents improve housing, schools, local businesses, health, and safety. It gives communities technical help, funding, and other resources. Neighbors, local businesses, and community leaders work together to set goals and make decisions. In 2023, each neighborhood made progress through clean-up projects, health fairs, youth programs, and economic workshops.

The GO Neighborhoods initiative exemplifies this approach by actively engaging and empowering residents to harness local assets and build networks of mutual support. Through these efforts, we not only address immediate needs but also lay down the groundwork for sustainable, long-term improvement. For example, the Fifth Ward and Northline both emphasized beautification and community clean-ups, suggesting a shared value in improving communal spaces which could lead to joint initiatives.
The practice of hosting community forums, across each community, demonstrates a common approach to engaging citizens in governance and local safety discussions.

Health and Wellness Programs:
Health-focused events, such as the community health forums in OST/South Union and health/resource fairs in Northline, show a unified approach to enhancing community health literacy and access to services. These programs could be coordinated across neighborhoods to increase their reach and impact, potentially securing more substantial funding and resource allocation.
