Alexander Deussen Park is a 309-acre Harris County green space hugging the south shore of Lake Houston. Whether you want to launch a boat, cast a line, let the kids run wild on a playground, or take a shady trail walk, this park has room for all of it.
The park packs a lot into 309 acres. You get multiple boat launches and a renovated T-Pier for docking. Fishing is easy from the piers or along the shorelines. Five playgrounds are spread out so kids always have somewhere close to play. Fourteen pavilions of different sizes come with BBQ grills, picnic tables, restrooms, and parking — great for birthday parties, reunions, or a low-key cookout. Four trailheads lead to walking and jogging paths through the natural scenery. An on-site Senior Community Center rounds out the amenities for older neighbors.
Reserve a pavilion ahead of time through the Harris County Precinct One Community Portal so your spot is locked in. Check the Lake Houston Water Safety Map before you head out on the water — it shows boat ramp locations and nearby Lake Patrol and Houston Fire Department stations. Arrive within the posted hours for your season, and check back for any schedule updates before holiday visits.
Open most days of the year. Summer hours (March–October): 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Winter hours (November–February): 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Check ahead for seasonal changes.
12303 Sonnier St, Houston — along the south side of Lake Houston in Harris County.
The park connects to broader Harris County Precinct One outdoor offerings. Boaters and anglers should also look into Lake Houston Water Safety resources, including Lake Patrol and Houston Fire Department lake stations, for a safe day on the water.
In 1956, petroleum geologist Alexander Deussen (1882–1959) donated this land to Harris County so the whole community could enjoy it. Nearly 70 years later, it still delivers: open water, shaded trails, family picnic spots, and a Senior Community Center all in one place.
