Opportunity Zones are a federal program designed to bring investment into communities — especially those that have faced economic hardship. Being designated an Opportunity Zone can attract businesses, housing projects, and other development by offering tax incentives to investors. Harris County wants to make sure the right neighborhoods are nominated.
The county has identified specific Census tracts — geographic areas used by the federal government to divide communities — that it believes either already show signs of growth or need a boost in investment. If approved, Harris County will send a nomination packet to the Texas Governor's Office of Economic Development and Tourism. From there, the U.
S. Treasury would make the final call on which areas get the designation.

This is a government policy vote, not a public application or service signup. Residents don't need to do anything to participate in the process itself. However, you can attend the public meeting, review the item on the agenda, or reach out to the county contact with questions.
