NAACP's academic Olympics celebrates Houston high schoolers' achievements in STEM, arts, and humanities with scholarships and national recognition.
ACT-SO is the NAACP's Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics for high school students in grades 9-12. This program celebrates young scholars and artists at the same level we celebrate athletes. Houston students compete in over 30 categories including STEM fields, humanities, business, and performing arts.
Winners advance to national competition with scholarships and recognition. Our Houston NAACP chapter recruits students each year to showcase their talents and academic achievements. This program matters because it gives our young people a platform to shine academically and culturally.
It builds confidence, creates mentorship opportunities, and connects students to college and career pathways. For Houston families, ACT-SO provides free academic support and celebrates excellence in our communities. Students gain valuable experience presenting their work, meeting professionals in their fields, and building networks that last beyond high school.
Teachers and professionals can volunteer as judges or mentors to support our young scholars.
The program strengthens our entire community by investing in our next generation of leaders, innovators, and change-makers. To get involved, contact the NAACP Houston chapter directly through their website or attend their community meetings. Parents and students can learn about competition categories, deadlines, and mentorship opportunities.
Champions racial equity and justice in Greater Houston through advocacy, voter engagement, and community leadership since 1918.
