Harris County Commissioners Court is considering a $250,000 amendment to keep peer recovery support services running in the Responsive Interventions for Change (RIC) Docket from March 1, 2026 through February 28, 2027. The RIC Docket offers people charged with low-level, non-violent drug offenses a path to treatment instead of jail. Houston Recovery Center places peer recovery specialists — people with their own recovery experience — inside the courtroom to connect participants with treatment, help them meet court requirements, and support personal goal-setting.
This vote decides whether peer recovery specialists stay in the RIC Docket court through early 2027. Those specialists connect people charged with minor drug offenses to treatment instead of jail.
