On July 9, 2026, Harris County Commissioners Court will vote on moving $100,000 from the MacArthur Foundation Safety and Justice Challenge Capstone Grant to District Courts Administration. The money would fund the Courtroom Peer Support Expansion Pilot, which places people with lived justice-system experience directly in district courtrooms. These peer supporters guide defendants, connect them to services, and help them stay on track with their cases. Harris County has been part of the Safety and Justice Challenge Network since 2015.

This vote decides whether $100,000 in grant money already received by Harris County gets moved to a program that places peer supporters inside district courtrooms. No new tax dollars are involved.
