When you call, you can say: “Hi, I saw "Harris County Gets Land Access for Woodridge Flood Control Project" on Community Exchange and want to know how to take part.”
Flooding destroys homes and disrupts daily life. This project will capture stormwater during heavy rains to protect neighborhoods in northeast Harris County from dangerous flooding by storing excess water instead of letting it rush downstream.
Construction can begin on flood detention basins that will protect northeast Harris County neighborhoods from dangerous flooding during storms.
The project cannot move forward, leaving communities vulnerable to flooding without this stormwater protection system.
Harris County Commissioners Court approved an agreement with Montgomery County to access land needed for the Woodridge Stormwater Detention Basin project. This flood control project will build two compartments to capture and hold stormwater in the San Jacinto River Watershed during heavy rains. The detention basin protects neighborhoods from flooding by storing excess water temporarily instead of letting it rush downstream.
This matters because flooding destroys homes, businesses, and disrupts our daily lives. The San Jacinto River Watershed covers parts of northeast Harris County and surrounding areas. When storms hit, water flows through this watershed toward the Houston Ship Channel and Galveston Bay.
Without proper flood control, communities along this path face dangerous flooding. The Woodridge project is funded through Harris County's flood bond program, which voters approved to build flood protection across our region. The access easement allows county crews and contractors to reach the construction site by crossing Montgomery County land.

This cooperation between counties shows how flood control requires teamwork across boundaries. Residents can track this project's progress by contacting the Harris County Flood Control District at Yesenia.Martinez@hcfcd.
These projects directly protect our homes and neighborhoods from storm damage.
