When you call, you can say: “Hi, I saw "Harris County Flood Control Contract Amendment for Buffalo Bayou Repairs" on Community Exchange and want to know how to take part.”
Buffalo Bayou flows through downtown Houston and many neighborhoods. These concrete repairs help protect homes, businesses, and schools from flooding during heavy rains and storms. The project also gives local minority and women-owned businesses real opportunities to do this important work.
Concrete channel repairs will strengthen flood protection along Buffalo Bayou, helping prevent erosion and maintain proper water flow during storms to protect nearby communities.
The Buffalo Bayou concrete channels would not get needed repairs, potentially leading to more flooding problems and erosion during heavy rains and storms.
Harris County Commissioners Court approved changes to a contract with Greater Houston Construction for concrete channel lining repairs along Buffalo Bayou. This infrastructure project strengthens flood protection in one of our area's most important watersheds. The Buffalo Bayou system flows through downtown Houston and many neighborhoods, making these repairs critical for community safety during heavy rains and storms.
The contract amendment shows strong commitment to minority and women-owned business participation, with 91.49% MWBE involvement far exceeding the 19.84% goal.
This means local diverse businesses are getting real opportunities to contribute to flood protection work. The project uses Bond ID CI-018 funding, which comes from voter-approved bonds specifically for flood control improvements. When we invest in concrete channel lining, we're preventing erosion and maintaining proper water flow during flooding events.
