Orange Show Special Events - Art, Culture, and Community Celebrations

The Orange Show Center for Visionary Art creates year-round special events that celebrate Houston's unique culture and creativity. Located at 2334 Gulf Terminal Drive in the East End, this nonprofit hosts festivals, exhibitions, conferences, and community gatherings that bring neighbors together around art and shared experiences. The Orange Show matters because it preserves and celebrates Houston's grassroots art traditions while creating space for new creative expressions. Their events showcase local culture, from SLAB car culture that emerged from Houston's African-American community to fire performance arts. These gatherings strengthen community bonds and give residents chances to learn about different cultures in our city. The events impact East End neighborhoods directly by drawing visitors and supporting local vendors and artists. They provide free and low-cost cultural programming that makes art accessible to families regardless of income. Events like SLAB Social honor Houston's automotive artistry tradition, while FLOWriety Fire nights create space for performance artists to share their skills. The programming connects people across different neighborhoods and backgrounds through shared creative experiences. A product of Houston's African-American community, slabs communicate social status, triumph over adversity, and a sense of poetry in motion. This free, festival-style event will feature a curated selection of slabs from the Houston community with DJs, a special exhibition, food trucks, a speaking program, and vendor market. Organized with consulting curator Iris Karami with support from Houston Museum of African American Culture. More details will be announced soon. The Return of the Foam Raiser featuring Little Mazarn and Pecos Hank presented with Saint Arnold Brewing Company Sunday, December 14, 2025 | 5 - 7 pm Orange Show monument, 2401 Munger Street Free parking at 2334 Gulf Terminal Drive, Houston, TX 77023 free admission, $25 for limited edition glass & two pints The Foam Raisers have been the product of a longstanding partnership between the Orange Show and Saint Arnold Brewing Company, introducing audiences to up-and-coming bands like The Suffers, Wild Moccasins, Grandfather Child, and Robert Ellis, as well as seasonal selections of handcrafted ales, IPAs, and ciders. The sale of limited edition pint glasses with an all-new design by Chris Lockwood benefit ongoing restoration efforts at the Orange Show monument. $25 gets the glass itself, a pint of seasonal Saint Arnold's beer, and a refill. ​ Admission is free but we encourage you to give generously as the Orange Show Center continues a major restoration effort supported by the National Park Service's Save America's Treasures initiative. ​ 5pm: LITTLE MAZARN Little Mazarn is a musical collaboration between friends Lindsey Verrill (songwriter, vocalist) and Jeff Johnston (saw). They live in Austin Texas.  Their songs invent new landscapes where the ground is the sky, where the foot touches the cloud and it dissolves ever so slowly, where the eye has the entire day to observe the path of the snail. ​ 6pm: PECOS HANK ​A knack for wrangling tornadoes and charming rattlesnakes earned Hank Schyma the nickname “Pecos Hank” after Texas fake-lore legend Pecos Bill.  Hank is a musician, author, storm chaser and filmmaker known for his stunning weather photography, nature documentaries, and educational science videos. Over three decades of chasing storms, he has documented some of the world’s most extreme tornadoes and thunderstorms and is credited with the discovery of the “green ghost,” a rare upper-atmospheric electrical discharge. Clips from his extensive video and photography catalog appear in movies and documentaries from National Geographic, Disney, BBC, Discovery and many more.  Life as a devoted songwriter and musician, dove-tailed harmoniously with his pursuit of Mother Nature’s mysteries.  His cinematic voodoo rock-n-roll and surfy western twang echo the lonely roads he travels.
