Hey! There's a free community event at Bagby Park on October 4th from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Free food, music, and games — plus you can meet local police. Want to go together?
National Night Out (NNO) is a free annual gathering in Midtown Houston where neighbors, local business owners, and law enforcement come together for food, games, and good conversation. It is a chance to put faces to names — and to build the kind of community connections that help keep your block safer.
Expect complimentary food (first-come, first-served), games for all ages, and live music from Rico's Morning + Noon + Night. Officers from the Houston Police Department (HPD), Metro Police Department, and Harris County Precinct 7 Constable's Office will be there to share safety tips and talk through community concerns. Midtown Houston board members and staff will hand out information on local projects and — yes — some Midtown swag. Local businesses and community groups will also have tables set up.
You do not need a ticket or an RSVP to attend — just show up. If you want to do more, you can volunteer, set up a table for your business or group, hand out literature, or donate small gifts to give away. Either way, arriving early is a good idea since food is first-come, first-served. Take a few minutes to introduce yourself to the officers on hand and ask about the safety resources they mention. You can also pick up information on community gardens, upcoming events, and other Midtown initiatives while you are there.

National Night Out is organized by Midtown Management District. Camden Travis Street Apartments (2700 Travis St.) is a community partner. Participating law-enforcement agencies include the Houston Police Department, Metro Police Department, and Harris County Precinct 7 Constable's Office.
Strong neighborhoods start with people who know each other. When residents and officers are familiar faces rather than strangers, trust grows and crime has a harder time taking hold. NNO has been making that case since 1984, when it launched with support from the U.S. Department of Justice. Now in its 32nd year, it is still one of the simplest ways to invest in the place you call home.
