The University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) accepts applications from several student types: freshman, transfer, visiting, former/returning, international, post-baccalaureate, and graduate. Each path has its own online application, a $50 non-refundable fee (or $80 for international students), and specific documents to submit. The Office of Admissions is located in Houston, TX, and is open Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.

Freshman Students
You're a Freshman applicant if:
You're about to graduate high school, earned a GED, or were home-schooled.
You’ve earned fewer than 15 college-level credits or haven’t attended college since
graduating high school.
Steps to Apply
Apply online using the UHD Direct Freshman Application.
Pay the $50 non-refundable application fee via the myUHD Student Portal (access details will be emailed after applying).
Submit your official high school transcript(s).
If you’ve earned college credit (e.g., dual credit, AP credit), submit official college
transcripts, AP scores as well.

You're a Transfer applicant if:
You've completed 15+ college credit hours after GRADUATING FROM high school.

Submit official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended.

Visiting Students
Visiting students are individuals who are degree-seeking at another institution and
wish to complete coursework at UHD for just one semester or during the summer.
Steps to Apply
Apply online with the UHD Direct Visiting Student Application.
Pay non-refundable $50 application fee. Check your email for a link to your myUHD
student portal where you can pay the fee. Freshman applicants may qualify for an application
fee waiver.
Supporting DocumentationTo be eligible for admission consideration, you will need to upload the following
documents to your checklist:
UHD Letter of Academic Standing form. The form must be completed by an Academic Advisor, Dean, or designee at your home
institution and submitted to the UHD Office of Admissions.
Unofficial transcript from your current home institution.

Former/Returning Students
You're a Former/Returning applicant if:
Students who have attended UHD but were not enrolled at the institution for the last 3 long consecutive semesters may qualify for readmission.
Must have a UHD GPA prior to readmission.
Former student pursuing an undergraduate degree.
Former student seeking a second degree as a Post-Bac.

Request (optional): Request a former student review for an unofficial estimate of degree remaining hours.
Reactivate: Apply for readmission to UHD if you have not been enrolled in that last 3 long consecutive semesters and developed
a UHD GPA. Application fee waived.

You're an International applicant if you hold a non-immigrant visa or have applied for immigrant status but have not yet
adjusted your status with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).

Post-Baccalaureate Students
You're a Post-Baccalaureate applicant if you have earned a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution and are interested in earning another bachelor's degree or completing
undergraduate-level classes in preparation for a graduate program.
Post-Baccalaureate non-degree seeking applicants are individuals who have previously earned a degree at another institution
and want to take a few courses at UHD.
Post-Baccalaureate degree seeking applicants are individuals who have previously earned a degree at another institution
and want to pursue a new degree at UHD.

Apply online using the UHD Direct Post-Baccalaureate Application.
Pay non-refundable $50 application fee. Check your email for a link to your myUHD
student portal where you can pay the fee.
Submit Official Transcripts.
Post-baccalaureate non-degree seeking applicants are required to submit an official transcript from the baccalaureate degree-awarding institution. Please note: Applicants are required to submit additional unofficial transcripts from other previously
attended institutions.
Post-baccalaureate degree-seeking applicants are required to submit official transcripts
from all institutions previously attended.
Foreign TranscriptsIf you attended a college or university outside the United States, your transcripts
must be evaluated by a credential evaluation service recognized by UHD prior to applying for admission to the university.

Graduate Students
Steps to Apply
Apply online using the UHD online graduate application.View the step-by-step instructions guide on creating an account first.
Pay non-refundable application fee ($35 for a domestic applicant and $80 for an international
applicant).
Current UHD degree-seeking students and alumni are eligible for a graduate application
fee waiver, provided an application fee has not already been submitted. Once an application
fee has been submitted, it is non-refundable and good for one calendar year. Current
UHD students and alumni can contact the Office of Graduate Admissions at gradadmissions@uhd.edu for more information prior to submitting their graduate application online.
Submit official transcript(s) from institution(s) where their bachelor’s degree(s) or equivalent was awarded. If
applicants attended a college or university outside the United States, their transcript(s)
must be evaluated by a credential evaluation service recognized by UHD prior to applying for admissions to the university.
Additional supporting documents are required for each specific program; applicants
should visit the program website for program requirements and other information. Programs
that require reference forms or letters of recommendation should have recommenders
submit them directly to the Office of Graduate Admissions at gradadmissions@uhd.edu.

General Application Processing Times
Application processing time can vary depending on the time of year.Normal processing time is 4-5 business days once all required application materials
are received.During peak periods (one month prior to the start of a semester), processing times
can increase to 8-10 business days. You can check your application status online visiting Admissions Status.
