"Sidewalks matter for getting kids to school safely, reaching a METRO bus stop, or walking to a park or clinic. Phase 1 already built more than 50 miles of new sidewalks near schools in the Alief, Cypress-Fairbanks, and Katy school districts — all in a single year. Phase 2 keeps that momentum going with $16 million set aside for the next round of construction."
Harris County Precinct 4 wants to hear from you. Fill out the 2025 survey to tell them exactly where new sidewalks are needed in your neighborhood. Your input helps shape how $16 million in Phase 2 funding gets spent.
The Sidewalks 4 Precinct 4 program was launched in March 2024 to fill long-standing gaps in pedestrian infrastructure. The 2025 survey lets residents request specific locations for new sidewalks. Precinct 4 uses a data-driven gap analysis to prioritize projects, with extra weight given to routes that connect people to schools, METRO bus stops, parks, hospitals, and shopping centers. Design work is planned to begin in Fall 2025, and construction is scheduled to run from Winter 2025 through Fall 2026. Each sidewalk segment typically takes four to eight weeks to complete, with multiple crews working across the precinct at the same time.
Take a few minutes to fill out the survey at the link below. Think about the routes you or your family use most — a school walk, a bus stop, a path to a park or doctor's office. Name those spots. The more specific you are, the better chance your neighborhood has of making the priority list. After you submit, you can also track completed and planned sidewalks through an interactive map on the Precinct 4 website.
This program connects to everyday needs like safe school walks, access to METRO bus stops, and routes to local parks and health care providers. If you use Houston METRO or have kids in the Alief, Cypress-Fairbanks, or Katy school districts, this project could directly affect your daily commute and your family's safety.
