Good first step: Share Any social worker you know in Houston
Hey, UH has online continuing education courses for social workers — ethics, trauma, telehealth, and more. You can do them at your own pace. Check it out at uh.edu/gcsw
The University of Houston Graduate College of Social Work offers continuing education (CE) courses built for licensed social workers who need to meet their renewal requirements. You can choose live virtual classes with a set schedule or self-paced online courses you can access any time for 90 days after you register.
Most courses offer 3 continuing education units (CEUs). Many count specifically toward ethics requirements. Topics include: ethics in telehealth, caseload management, behavioral health assessment, cultural competency, play therapy, nephrology social work, confidentiality challenges, disaster trauma, financial literacy, retirement planning, self-care, record keeping, and supervision. Live virtual sessions run in morning or full-day blocks. Self-paced courses let you work on your own schedule — any hour of the day — for 90 days from the date you register.
Browse the course schedule at the URL below to see which live sessions fit your calendar and which self-paced options match your license renewal topics. Once you pick a course, you can register and pay by credit card directly through the course schedule page. After you complete a self-paced course, you have the full 90-day window to finish at whatever pace works for you.
Ongoing — self-paced courses are available 24/7 for 90 days after registration; live virtual sessions have scheduled dates, including offerings in May and June 2026.
Online — all courses are delivered virtually through the UH Graduate College of Social Work.
If you work in Houston-area agencies, schools, healthcare settings, or private practice, these courses speak directly to situations you face every day — from documentation ethics to supporting clients after a disaster. The UH Graduate College of Social Work is a local institution with deep roots in the Houston community.
Keeping your license current means staying sharp for the people you serve. These courses cover the skills and ethics topics Texas social workers need most — from telehealth and clinical assessment to disaster trauma, financial social work, and culturally competent practice. Getting your CE hours through a respected local university means the content is grounded in real professional standards.
