We will show what we know and where it came from.
A free monthly Zoom circle from Houston's Center for the Healing of Racism that uses art-making and healing dialogue to process emotions about racial suffering and current events. No art experience needed.
## What to Expect The Healing Art Circle provides a supportive space to process emotions about current events and racial suffering through creative expression. Using an adapted Healing Circle format combined with art-making, participants explore their feelings in a safe, judgment-free environment. Healing circles help participants step out of ordinary time into a safe and accepting environment — listening with compassion and curiosity, honoring each other's unique paths to healing, and trusting that each person has the guidance they need within them. The circle relies on the power of silence to access inner wisdom. ### Core Practices - **Listening with attention** — being fully present for others' experiences - **Speaking with intention** — sharing authentically from the heart - **Tending to the well-being of the circle** — supporting collective healing ### What You'll Need - Any materials or writing and art supplies you have available - Any medium you choose: poetry, music, watercolors, collage, pen and paper, digital art, dance, and more - No art experience necessary — all forms of creative expression are welcome ## Your Facilitator The circle is facilitated by Helen Spaw, MPS, Healing Art Circles president and circle host. Helen brings extensive experience as a therapist, group leader, and art teacher for all ages and abilities. She holds a Master's degree in Art Therapy and Creativity Development from New York's Pratt Institute and a Bachelor's in Psychology with an art minor from the College of Santa Fe. ## About the Center for the Healing of Racism Since 1989, the Center for the Healing of Racism has championed the vision of a united community where every person can thrive free from racial prejudice.
