Learn life-saving skills to recognize mental health crises and help your neighbors, coworkers, and family members get the support they need.
Mental Health America of Greater Houston offers Mental Health First Aid certification courses that teach our community members how to recognize and respond to mental health crises. This evidence-based training program gives you practical skills to support someone experiencing depression, anxiety, panic attacks, or thoughts of suicide. You learn how to approach someone in crisis with confidence, provide initial support, and connect them to professional help.
The course covers warning signs to watch for, how to listen without judgment, and steps to take in emergencies. Training sessions happen throughout Houston and surrounding areas. This matters because mental health challenges affect 1 in 4 people in our community.
When more neighbors know how to help, we create safer, more supportive neighborhoods. You become equipped to assist coworkers, family members, or strangers who need support. The certification is valuable for teachers, managers, community volunteers, and anyone who wants to make a difference.
Classes are offered regularly across Harris County, including downtown, northwest, southwest, and northeast Houston locations.
Mental Health America of Greater Houston has trained thousands of Houstonians since starting this program. To get involved, visit their website at mhahouston.org or call their office to find upcoming training dates.
