Houston Landing Storytellers was a local storytelling series that brought Houstonians together to share personal stories on important themes like family, community, and connection. The series held events at venues like the Midtown Arts and Theater Center, where residents took the stage to share vulnerable, powerful stories about their lives. These weren't professional performers — they were our neighbors, sharing real experiences about love, loss, tradition, and the bonds that shape us. The series created space for authentic community connection through storytelling. It showed that every Houston resident has stories worth telling and hearing. When we listen to each other's stories, we build empathy and understanding across different backgrounds and neighborhoods. This kind of storytelling breaks down barriers and reminds us what we share in common. The April 2024 'Family' event was the series' final gathering, marking the end of Houston Landing's storytelling programming. While this specific series has ended, the model shows how powerful community storytelling can be. Local storytelling events help residents process shared experiences, celebrate diverse perspectives, and strengthen neighborhood bonds. They create opportunities for people who might never otherwise meet to connect through shared humanity. Houston has many storytelling organizations and open mic opportunities where residents can continue sharing and listening to community stories.
Houston Landing hosted its final storytelling event titled “Family” at the Midtown Arts and Theater Center on Apr. 23. Five incredible speakers took the stage to share personal reflections on what family means to them — stories of love, loss, tradition, and chosen bonds that reminded us all of the ties that shape and sustain us.
The evening was graciously hosted by Sydney Fucci, Houston Landing’s Director of Marketing, whose leadership and warmth helped set the tone for a night centered on connection, vulnerability, and community.
The event was a celebration of connection, vulnerability, and community. There are the values that have guided this project from the very beginning.
As we near the end of this chapter, we’re especially grateful for the many moments like this one — filled with warmth, courage, and shared humanity. Thank you for being part of our community, for showing up, and for believing in the power of storytelling. It has truly meant everything.
