The USDA Food and Nutrition Service administers 15 nutrition assistance programs including the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), the National School Lunch Program, and the School Breakfast Program. These programs provide access to food for millions of low-income households, pregnant women, new mothers, and children across the country. In Texas, SNAP and WIC are administered through the Texas Health and Human Services Commission. FNS programs serve as the front-line nutrition safety net for Houston families.
