The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development funds and oversees affordable housing programs, fair housing enforcement, and community development block grants. HUD funds Section 8 vouchers, public housing authorities, and HOPE programs. HUD's Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity investigates housing discrimination complaints. The Houston HUD Field Office oversees funding to the Houston Housing Authority and Harris County housing programs. HUD also administers the Community Development Block Grant program which funds neighborhood improvement projects in Houston.
