The Texas Office of the Attorney General serves as the state's law firm and enforces Texas law. The OAG administers the state's child support program — one of the largest in the country — collecting and distributing billions in child support payments annually. The Consumer Protection Division investigates and prosecutes fraud, deceptive business practices, and predatory lending. The OAG operates the Crime Victims' Compensation program which provides financial assistance to crime victims. The OAG also enforces the Texas Equal Credit Opportunity Act and investigates civil rights complaints involving state agencies.
