The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services investigates reports of child abuse and neglect, adult protective services cases, and operates the state foster care system. DFPS provides services to help families stay safely together and supports children in foster care with placement, case management, and transition to adulthood services. DFPS licenses foster and adoptive homes and connects waiting children with permanent families. The department also operates Adult Protective Services which investigates abuse, neglect, and exploitation of elderly and disabled Texans. DFPS has regional offices throughout Houston and Harris County.
