Who can register
You can register to vote in Texas if you are:
A United States citizen
A resident of the Texas county where you are registering
At least 17 years and 10 months old (you can register before you turn 18, but cannot vote until your 18th birthday)
Not a convicted felon (unless your sentence, probation, and parole are fully completed)
How to register
Option 1: Online (sort of)
Texas does not have true online registration. You can fill out the application at vrapp.sos.state.tx.us, but you still have to print, sign, and mail it. Mail to: Harris County Voter Registrar, P.O. Box 1148, Houston, TX 77251-1148.
Option 2: In person
Pick up a voter registration card at:
Harris County Tax Office, 1001 Preston Street, Houston, TX 77002
Any Harris County Tax Office branch location
Public libraries throughout Harris County
Texas DPS offices (when you get or renew your driver's license)
Many post offices
Option 3: By mail
Call the Harris County Voter Registrar at 713-274-8200 and ask them to mail you a registration card. Fill it out, sign it, and mail it back.

After you register
You will receive a voter registration certificate in the mail within 30 days. This is your proof of registration. It shows your name, address, and precinct number.

Update your registration if you move. You must re-register at your new address. There is no automatic transfer.

Do I have to pick a party? No. Texas does not have party registration. You choose which party's primary to vote in at the polls.
I moved within Harris County — do I need to re-register? Yes. Submit a new application with your updated address.
I am a college student. Where do I register? Either your campus address or your home address — wherever you consider your permanent residence. You cannot register at both.
