Overview
The Way Home is Houston's coordinated system that brings together over 100 partner agencies to help people experiencing homelessness find permanent housing quickly. This Housing First approach puts people into stable homes first, then provides support services like case management, health care, and job training to help them stay housed. The system serves everyone regardless of background, income, or ability to pay. Houston has become a national model for reducing homelessness through this coordinated approach. Since 2011, our community has reduced homelessness by over 60% - one of the few major cities to achieve this success. The Way Home matters because stable housing helps our neighbors rebuild their lives, reduces strain on emergency services, and makes our neighborhoods stronger. When people have homes, children can attend school regularly, adults can maintain jobs, and families stay together. The system connects people to housing through a coordinated entry process that prioritizes those with the greatest needs first. You can get involved by volunteering with partner agencies, donating to the Coalition for the Homeless, or advocating for housing policies. Contact the Coalition for the Homeless at 2000 Crawford Street to learn about volunteer opportunities or visit their website to find ways to support this life-changing work in our community.
