March 31 marks Transgender Day of Visibility, a time when our community comes together to celebrate transgender and non-binary neighbors. This day helps us build stronger connections and create welcoming spaces for everyone.

We can start by learning about transgender experiences through books, documentaries, and podcasts. Reading works by trans writers like Janet Mock's "Redefining Realness" or watching documentaries like "Disclosure" on Netflix opens our minds to different stories. These resources help us understand our neighbors better and become more thoughtful community members.

Supporting local organizations makes a real difference in our community. We can donate time or money to groups that help transgender people access safe housing, healthcare, and legal support. Many small, grassroots organizations in our area need our help to continue their important work serving transgender community members.

Taking action against harmful laws also protects our transgender neighbors. The ACLU tracks 500 anti-LGBTQ+ bills across state legislatures. We can contact our representatives, attend community meetings, and vote for leaders who support equal rights for all people.

This Transgender Day of Visibility, we have many chances to show support and build community. Every action we take - from reading a book to donating to a local organization - helps create a safer, more welcoming place for our transgender neighbors to thrive.
