About
What is Alcoholics Anonymous?
AA is a community of people who share their experience, strength, and hope with each other so that they may solve their common problem and help others recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees.
AA is not affiliated with any sect, denomination, political organization, or institution. It does not engage in any controversy. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help others achieve sobriety.

What to expect
How meetings work
Most meetings last about an hour. Some are as short as 30 minutes, especially at lunch. Walk in and sit down — no sign-up needed. Nobody will put us on the spot or ask us to speak.
Meetings typically open with a reading, then move to sharing or a speaker. Everything said in the room stays in the room. Coffee is usually on.
Many people bring a friend or family member the first time. Open meetings welcome anyone. We are never required to share our name or speak at all.
Types of Meetings
There is a meeting for everyone
Open meetings
Anyone is welcome — people in recovery, family members, and those who want to learn. A good starting point.
Closed meetings
For people who have a desire to stop drinking, or who think they may have a problem. A space for honesty.
Speaker meetings
One or two people share their personal story of recovery. Listeners can simply sit and take it in.
Discussion meetings
The group picks a topic and talks it through together. Sharing is encouraged but never required.
