The Houston Food Bank is our community's largest hunger-relief organization. We serve Harris County and 17 surrounding counties. Every day, volunteers help sort donated food, pack boxes, and prepare meals for families who need them. This volunteer work feeds thousands of Houston residents each week.
This matters because one in six people in Harris County faces hunger. That includes our neighbors, coworkers, and children in our schools. The Food Bank distributes 207,000 meals every day through 1,500 partner agencies. These include food pantries, soup kitchens, and school backpack programs across Houston neighborhoods.
Volunteering here connects you directly to solving hunger in your community. You might sort canned goods in Montrose that feed families in Third Ward. Or pack fresh produce that goes to seniors in Kingwood. The work happens at their main warehouse on Portwall Street, near the Port of Houston.
Volunteer shifts run Monday through Saturday. You can sign up for 2-4 hour shifts that fit your schedule. Groups are welcome - bring your church, workplace team, or student organization. Individual volunteers join community groups. Register online at their website or call their volunteer line. They provide all training and materials. Just bring yourself and closed-toe shoes.
