Overview
Grow the Circle is Houston in Action's voter engagement program that helps our neighbors participate in elections. This program reaches out to new voters, people who rarely vote, and communities that haven't always been included in the political process. We focus especially on first-time voters and young people who are just starting their civic journey. The program uses both face-to-face conversations and online outreach to connect with Houston residents.
This work matters because when more people vote, our community gets stronger representation. Houston has diverse neighborhoods with different needs - from flood protection in Southeast Houston to affordable housing in Third Ward to transit access in Northside. When we all participate in elections, our elected officials hear from the whole community, not just a few voices.
Voting connects directly to issues that affect your daily life. School board elections shape your children's education. City council races determine your neighborhood's infrastructure and services. County elections impact our courts, health services, and emergency response. State elections affect our jobs, healthcare, and housing policies.
You can get involved by volunteering with Houston in Action's voter outreach efforts. Join phone banks, help with voter registration drives, or become a community organizer. Contact Houston in Action through their website to learn about upcoming volunteer opportunities and training sessions.
