Overview
Rucker Elementary School is a Houston ISD public school that serves our Southeast Houston community. Located on Vinett Street, this school provides free public education for children from early childhood (EE) through 5th grade. With 394 students enrolled, Rucker Elementary creates a close-knit learning environment where every child can grow and succeed.
This school matters because it gives all families in our neighborhood access to quality education, no matter their income. Every student receives free breakfast and lunch, textbooks, and learning materials. The school also offers after-school programs, sports, music, and other activities that help children discover their talents and build friendships.
Rucker Elementary directly impacts families in the 77017 area and nearby neighborhoods. When our local elementary school is strong, property values stay stable and our community attracts new families. The school creates jobs for teachers, staff, and support workers. It also serves as a community hub where neighbors meet and work together.
To get involved, contact Principal Eileen Puente at (713) 845-7467. Parents can volunteer in classrooms, join the PTA, or attend school board meetings.
