Overview
Bruce Elementary School serves our Second Ward community with free public education for students from pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. Located at 510 Jensen Drive, this Houston ISD school welcomes 307 students and their families each day. Principal Shawn B. Nickerson leads a team dedicated to helping every child succeed. Our school matters because every Houston family deserves access to quality education close to home. Bruce Elementary provides more than just classroom learning. Students receive free breakfast and lunch, participate in after-school programs, and access support services like counseling and special education when needed. The school connects directly to our neighborhood's future - when children succeed in school, our whole community grows stronger. Parents can get involved by enrolling their children, volunteering in classrooms, joining the Parent Teacher Organization, or attending school board meetings. Houston ISD serves families regardless of income, immigration status, or housing situation. If you live in the Bruce Elementary attendance zone, your child has a guaranteed spot. Contact the school at (713) 226-4560 to learn about enrollment, tour the campus, or ask questions. The school also connects families to community resources like health clinics, job training, and housing assistance through Houston ISD's family engagement programs.
