Taking Care
Animeals — pet food and vet care for homebound seniors' pets
Free pet food delivery and preventative veterinary care for companion animals of homebound seniors enrolled in Meals on Wheels.
By Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston -- Apr 20, 2026
Overview
When Meals on Wheels volunteers discovered seniors sharing their own meals with beloved pets, IM Houston created Animeals. The program delivers free pet food monthly to nearly 1,000 dogs and cats belonging to homebound seniors in Harris and Galveston counties. Animeals also provides preventative veterinary care, spay and neuter services, and flea and tick prevention — keeping pets healthy so seniors can keep the companionship that sustains them. Volunteers help with monthly deliveries, warehouse repackaging, donation pickups, and pet food drives.
