Renters in our community now have a powerful new tool to find better apartments and landlords. WhoseYourLandlord is a free website where we can share reviews about our rental experiences and read what others say about property owners before signing a lease.
College student Ofo Ezeugwu created the platform after hearing too many housing horror stories from students. The website lets us enter our zip code and property details to find or leave reviews for landlords. All reviews are anonymous and verified by a third party to keep them honest and safe.
The platform goes beyond simple star ratings. When we write a review, we fill out a detailed survey about key rental experience factors. This data creates the first-ever Resident Trust Index, which measures how much trust exists between renters and property managers. The index looks at property safety, cleanliness, management communication, and maintenance response times.
The system especially helps younger Americans under 35, along with Black and Hispanic communities who are most likely to rent according to the Pew Research Center. Good landlords who score high on the index can get certified as quality home providers, making them stand out to potential renters.
After surveying over 13,000 renters across 46 US cities in 2024, Ezeugwu found that trust plays a huge role in creating healthy home environments. The platform helps standardize rental quality nationwide and gives often marginalized renters the information we need to thrive in safe, quality housing.
