Overview
Urban Rural Action teaches people and groups how to work together effectively. We help you listen well, understand different viewpoints, and solve problems as a team.
Our workshops teach a simple communication method you can use right away. You'll practice talking through disagreements and finding solutions that work for everyone.
We also help community teams tackle big challenges. You'll learn how to understand problems from all angles, figure out who cares about an issue, and bring people together to make real change happen.
Whether you're in a classroom, organization, or neighborhood group, we can help you and your team develop the skills to lead and make a difference where you live.
Why it matters
Who gets included matters. Who gets heard matters. Who benefits from the decisions made in your city matters. Inclusion isn't just a value — it's a measure of how well a community is actually working. When more people are in the room, better decisions get made. For everyone.
“Learn how to listen better, work together, and solve problems as a team.”

What the data shows
Go deeper
UR Action works with individuals and organizations to strengthen interpersonal skills such as dialogue and joint problem-solving. We also help community teams analyze complex challenges across systems and design interventions to effect positive change.
We introduce a memorable and accessible communication model and help participants practice applying the model to explore different perspectives and navigate disagreement.
We help Americans navigate interpersonal conflict by digging beneath the positions of their counterparts to uncover their underlying motivations and generate creative solutions that can be implemented effectively.
We help teams of community members and students develop skills to effect positive change where they live by learning how to analyze societal challenges across systems, conduct stakeholder and influence mapping, and build coalitions.
Reach out to us via email to explore how we can support you or your organization in cultivating the leaders of tomorrow, poised to enact meaningful and lasting transformations.
We apply proven models from the conflict resolution field to promote collaboration and community engagement. We aim to work with groups that are diverse ideologically, racially, religiously, and/or generationally; and build connections through a facilitative, experiential, and hands-on experience.
For example, across Indianapolis, we engage places of worship, libraries, local service organizations, and universities to help Hoosiers, including young people, gain the skills they need to advance peaceful communities. This includes working with young people to become leaders in targeted violence prevention.
